Step it up a bit

I ran 1.6 mi today and realize that I need to step it up now. Just 2 weeks away from the 5K and its not looking so good. We have a route that is 2.1 miles, BUT the tail end of it goes right in front of our house and around the block one more time. Do you know how hard it is to keep going past the house?? That was my plan today, but couldn't do it. I'm such a wimp! LOL!
So, I've looked up a different route that does a loop around towards the middle of the run, and then run back towards the house. That way, I'm only halfway through my run when I add a little more on. Isn't this ridiculous how much thought it going into make my route from 1.6 to 2.1 miles?? Oh well, it will at least get me to that next step. I need to commit to running that 2.1 miles EVERY night this week! And then charge it up to 2.6 for a few nights and then to 3.1 miles. Okay maybe I shouldn't run EVERY night, you are suppose to rest some, so I'll do this:

Monday: run 2.1 mi.
Tuesday: run/walk 2.6 mi.
Wednesday: run 2.1 mi.
Thursday: run 2.6 mi.
Friday: run 2.6 mi.
Saturday: run/walk 3.1 mi.
Sunday: run 2.6 mi.
Monday: run 3.1 mi.
Tuesday: run 3.1 mi.
Wednesday: run/walk 3.1 mi.
Thursday: run 3.1 mi.
Friday: run/walk 3.1 mi.
Saturday: RUN 5K 9:00 am

I know thats probably ridiculous working myself that hard, but I'm sure in the need for it. Hopefully I can keep it up. But worried about myself and my track record for putting things like this off.

  1. Cute new layout! I love the nike+. I just tested out a mile and it was fun to see my progress. You should invest in one. They are$29.99 at Best Buy. Since i dont have nike running shoes, i ordered this pouch that connects to my shoe laces. It hasnt got here yet so tonight i improvised and weved a plastic bag through my laces! Whatever works right? Check it out. Its totally worth it.

Oh and while looking at your profile i saw that your a sonographer! Thats awesome. Where do you work? I'm actually applying for that and Radiography in January at JCC... any tips?

  3. Hey! I haven't taken physics yet. Possibly i will in the winter. The main program i'm applying for is Radiography, but i figured i might as well try them all.

I don't live in jackson but i live just outside of concord about 9miles. I'm dating Stephanie's youngest brother Brian so thats how we know eachother :)

  4. Just a tip from frequent runner/racer. You should definitely take a few days off in there. If you run non-stop like that up until the race, your muscles will not heal and you won't be able to move forward. As in, your muscles could get burned out even before the race. And definitely take the day before the race off. To rest your legs before going all out. :)
Just a suggestion! I am excited you are going to do the Allegiance race. I usually do it every year but this year we are trying to save money. Good luck!

  5. my sister and i ran a half-marathon taking walk breaks. we did this the whole time we were training. we'd go either a mile, or ten minutes, and then take a walk break for a minute (we worked up to that). i am NOT a runner, so i really think it helped me. even veteran racers can improve by doing this. you can read more about it here:

    walk breaks

also - you don't need to actually run the amount you will race BEFORE the race. if you have the training time then it's great to be able to do the race distance or even more, but a lot of distance runners only train up to a certain point and then run longer on race day. the extra adrenaline and the crowd help get you there.

definitely take at least one day off a week and take the day off before the race FOR SURE.

    good luck! :)

  6. You go girl! You can do it. I know you are supposed to take breaks...but both of us went through bootcamp (the Army was probably harder than the Navy)...but they sure didn't give us any breaks in those months of hell! ;)

Of course, I'd need a drill instructor behind me yelling so I could keep up the pace!
