update needed

Wow, I havent updated this blog in a long time. I even started working out about 3.5 weeks ago too. I signed up at the Wellness Center here at work for a pretty good price and it comes out of my check too. Just $9 a pay period (2 weeks). So far, I've been going about 3-4 times a week. I've been doing 30 minute workouts on treadmill and elliptical. I just added the rowing workout to my list of things, as I figured I would want to work on my arms more. I'll try to keep some updates on here. Probably most will be weight updates. Last I weighed, about a week ago, I was at 144. So thats a plus right there within itself. And Im glad to not be sore anymore whenever I do workout.
Oh and come to think of it, I'm getting my calf muscles back too! Nice!!

First 5K Run

This past Saturday I reopened a door to a past addiction. Running in Races. Over the past 4 weeks I have been training to run in a 5K with Tony and Nicole and it has just seemed like running during these past weeks. And that was just the intention when we showed up Saturday morning to this run. Intention was just to run. But now I think I have instilled the urge to want to RACE. As in, trying to increase my time and see what is the best that I can do. It brought back feelings that I had stored in me for the last 10 years. Not sure why I didn't recall those until actually crossing the finish line, but that's how it happened. So I think my outlook on running has changed a bit.
Embarrassingly enough I'm gonna post my time here. Knowing what frame of mind I was in, it is embarassing. Only because everyone else was out there to run a RACE. I was out there to run a RUN. Make sense?? But things might change now. I think I'm getting into RACE mode after being in the mix of it on Saturday with the names called, times stated, and all the awards handed out. I'm actually really excited to see what becomes of it all. So you want to know the time?? LOL! Okay, here it is.. 35:03.
Yup thats the time.. {sigh}. Anyways, this was a really tough course with hills involved and from the sounds of the other runners racers, this was one of the toughest courses in this area for a 5K. Makes me feel a little better that I at least finished it.
Who knows... Maybe One day we can look back at this time and then I will be laughing with you! :)

Step it up a bit

I ran 1.6 mi today and realize that I need to step it up now. Just 2 weeks away from the 5K and its not looking so good. We have a route that is 2.1 miles, BUT the tail end of it goes right in front of our house and around the block one more time. Do you know how hard it is to keep going past the house?? That was my plan today, but couldn't do it. I'm such a wimp! LOL!
So, I've looked up a different route that does a loop around towards the middle of the run, and then run back towards the house. That way, I'm only halfway through my run when I add a little more on. Isn't this ridiculous how much thought it going into make my route from 1.6 to 2.1 miles?? Oh well, it will at least get me to that next step. I need to commit to running that 2.1 miles EVERY night this week! And then charge it up to 2.6 for a few nights and then to 3.1 miles. Okay maybe I shouldn't run EVERY night, you are suppose to rest some, so I'll do this:

Monday: run 2.1 mi.
Tuesday: run/walk 2.6 mi.
Wednesday: run 2.1 mi.
Thursday: run 2.6 mi.
Friday: run 2.6 mi.
Saturday: run/walk 3.1 mi.
Sunday: run 2.6 mi.
Monday: run 3.1 mi.
Tuesday: run 3.1 mi.
Wednesday: run/walk 3.1 mi.
Thursday: run 3.1 mi.
Friday: run/walk 3.1 mi.
Saturday: RUN 5K 9:00 am

I know thats probably ridiculous working myself that hard, but I'm sure in the need for it. Hopefully I can keep it up. But worried about myself and my track record for putting things like this off.

Still going...

I didn't feel like running last night, so I talked Tony into running in the morning when we wake up. Of course then we stayed up till 1:30 watching the Olympics and watching videos on You Tube. So I didn't get out of bed till 10:00. Thanks You Tony for letting me sleep in!
We got the jogging stroller out and ran the 1.56 mi route in hopes that we would just run another block around to make it a 2.1 mi run. Wellll... that didn't happen. I was really exhausted and out of breath and feeling week to pass up my house and run around the block. I really do need to get a move on it though and get up to the 3.1 miles that needs to be accomplished by September 6th! Yikes!

8-17-08

We picked up a jogging stroller at a garage sale Saturday for $30. What a deal for a barely used Baby Trend Explorer jogging stroller. We brought it out tonight and tried out a new route. This route is 1.56 miles and has a few hills as well. We, or I should say "I", didn't want to finish the whole route, so we cut it down to 1.1 miles. I was just really out of breath and wasn't feeling the love for running. I'm in desperate need to pick things back up and get moving towards the 2 mile mark. Just under 3 weeks now before the 5K.

{inhale... exhale....}

Okay. Time to snap back into this. I stepped on the scale and it wasn't pretty. 151 pounds.
I made a commitment this past weekend to run a 5K next month with Tony. They would like you to have 8 weeks to prepare, but I'm gonna have to do this in 4. Even if it just helps me start this running habit, it will be worth it. So I mapped out some runs around my neighborhood last night to get things started.

Today I made the first run. 1.56 miles was the plan. And I ended with running 1.34 miles of it. Not too bad for the first day out. Although I'm sure gonna feel it tomorrow!!

Holy Toledo!

Has it really been a whole freakin' month since I've worked out?!?!? Aye-Yi-Yi! Looks like I need to get into the Potty Training mode we've got Lukas in and do 21 days to make this a habit for me! I'm not really looking forward to weighing myself either, as I am feeling like I just gained 5-10 lbs. in the last week! I sure hope not!

My other half.

Tony has been a tremendous help in helping me get motivated in working out. He has been pretty active in working out at home during the past year I'd say. He hasn't gone out to run, but he does different cardio and muscle tone workouts inside the house. He is also pretty active outside the home as well with different sports as well. In the Fall and Winter he plays basketball. Spring is Volleyball. Summer is softball. Since I started working out last week, he's motivated me a lot and has even done all the workouts with me. We've been running together when we go out and run. I'm really looking forward to continuing on this workout training and am greatful for a great partner in the mix. Thanks babe!

Day 3

Workout Today:
Ran for 10 minutes.

Yeah I was going to try for 15 minutes, but after 7 minutes, I decided that 10 sounded better. This was the only thing we did tonight, we were both pretty tired and ready for bed, but wanted to get out and run a bit.

Day 2

Starting Weight: 148 lbs.

Workout today:
Jumping Jacks - 3 sets of 50
Milk Jug lifts - 3 sets of 10 (full gallon of water in each hand)
Squats with 25 lb. dumbells in hand - 3 sets of 10
Crunches - 3 sets of 15 (hold the last one for 3 secs.)
Push-up - 3 sets of 10
Side Leg Lifts - 3 sets of 15 (each side)
Moderate Jog - 6 minutes (with 2 minute cooldown walk)

Weight an issue?

So that workout on Tuesday didn't make me sore on Wednesday, sure I sure did feel it on Thursday! My thighs and calves especially! But thats a good thing, right? Means I worked those muscles, or does that mean of overworked them? Hmm... I did stretch out beforehand too.
I know that I started including my weight in this, which I really shouldn't. Because I do know that muscle weighs more than fat and in the end, I could be gaining weight. Which is what happened when I joined the Army. I weighed 125 lbs. before I left for basic training, and came back weighing 145 lbs. My weight seems to fluctuate between 3 lbs. as it is. So weighing myself tonight shouldn't be done, but I did it anyways for curiosity.
The results of that killed the cat too! :(
148 lbs. Oh well, I didn't expect to see any drop in pounds, but sure didn't want to see a gain.

After Day 1

So I'm feeling not too bad after that first workout. I actually expected to feel alot more sore today. There isn't any time today for any workout, as I am heading to be right now, since I've got to work tonight at 8pm. Maybe if its slow enough at work, I can get in a little bit of a workout. Nothing that would make me break a sweat, but just to do some toning and lifting maybe.

Welcome

Here is the start of a new blog for me, for the new me. I'm using this to help me track my workouts and weights and goals.
My goal weight is to be 130 lbs again. This may take longer than most, because we are also trying to get pregnant at the same time. Goal areas of my body I would like to see toned are my upper arms, waistline (which includes the love handles I am gaining), and my thighs.
When I graduated high school I weighed 125 lbs. and was pretty active in running. Being in the military did help me stay pretty fit, but since the last 5 years that ive been inactive with the military, I havent really had any type of fitness routine for myself. I'm lucky that I didnt gain more weight than what I have. Probably in the last 2 years is when its really starting to notice and stay on me. Maybe because I had a child 2.5 years ago and now its changed the way my body has burned off the fat before. I didnt have to work on staying thin before, and now I do.
So here begins my journey to Make Me Fit. Im hoping this can come somewhat easy to me or at least enjoy doing this, so I can keep it going as a daily routine.
